How I Grew a Moustache
How I Grew a Moustache is a multi-formal, semi-biographical performance piece that dives into grief, masculinity, and intergenerational trauma, inspired by my own familial history.
Equipping bilingual verbatim audio from interviews with family members, silhouettes and shadow sequences, and narrative performance, the piece follows the story of my father’s experience of grief, having lost his own father when he was 13 years old.
Never having fully recovered from the heartbreak of loss, it impacted his own perception of and capacity for fatherhood. The piece asks: what happens when we are unable to mourn our losses?
